Sea Kayaking Basics Course

If visiting some of the most dynamic places on the planet, bird watching or just slipping onto a lake after work with new friends interests you, then the Seattle Mountaineers Sea Kayaking Basics course is for you.

The Sea Kayaking Basics course is offered once each year, beginning in March, by the Seattle Mountaineers.  Most of the instruction in this course is based on the principles developed by the American Canoe Association, and an increasing number of our instructors are certified by that nationally acclaimed organization.

To participate in Mountaineers-sponsored kayak trips, you must be a graduate or continuing student of this course or have received equivalency. However, no prior sea kayaking knowledge or experience is required to participate in this course.  If you do not already own a kayak and/or dry suit, all kayaking gear and immersion wear needed to complete this course will be available for rent.

The Sea Kayaking Basics course consists of classroom sessions, a pool session, and open-water instructional events / paddles.  To graduate, students complete two qualifying paddles.

For additional information please see the Seattle Sea Kayaking Basics Course at:
www.mountaineers.org/seattle/kayak/

Registration for this course opens on January 1.
